Why does florida DMV make you pay more for older cars?

like my dad got the tag for a 1992 ford aerostar for 71 dollars and a 2006 toyota corolla for 41 dollars. does the DMV want to remove old cars from the street|||Because in Florida, the costs vary based on weight of the vehicle.

* Automobiles, private use (2,500 to 3,499 pounds): $35.60





* Automobiles, private use (3,500 or more pounds): $45.60





* Trucks, private and commercial (1,900 pounds or less): $27.60





* Trucks, private and commercial (2,000 to 3,000 pounds): $35.60





* Trucks, private and commercial (3,001 to 5,000 pounds): $45.60





* Transfer of a license plate from another vehicle: $4.60





* Issue of a new metal license plate: $10





* Initial registration fee: $100

The Aerostar weighs more than 3,500 pounds which puts it into the most expensive registration class. The Corolla might be under 2,500 pounds which puts it in the least expensive registration class.





I think Oklatoms numbers are out of date. The fees have gone up quite a bit. See the link for 2010|||cuz theyre gay
